The Axe Forgets, the Tree Remembers

Mar 25, 2022 18:01

For many a long year have we been idle

As they came in droves to rape and kill,

Our mother wept such bitter tears,

Watching, as they quaffed their fill.

Unheard, our pleading cries hung on the air,

Thickened with particles of each heart,

Just their piercing screams tormenting us

As they viciously rent our bodies apart.

Our numbers are dimishing daily,

Our ancestors voices cry out in pain,

Their spirit in us will fade into extinction,

Our like will ne'er be seen again.

We call on them to imbue us with strength

And sorcery to enchant our boughs

That we may squeeze life from our enemies

As the susurrous night wind chillingly soughs

Then, deforestation will be a remnant of the past,

Once more our leaves will canopy the earth,

Mother nature in all her glory will smile once more

As her beloved forests embrace rebirth.
