...and my namesake is a hot mess.
First of all, seeing Miss Austin Scarlett strut his fabulous stuff as a guest judge...well, that just made my day.
Loved that they brought back the Gristedes challenge, although I'm shocked that more of the designers didn't rise to the occasion by choosing non-textile-like materials. Did they just not watch season 1 or something? Hello! Austin won even though his dress was falling apart because it was innovative -- cleverly turning something that wasn't fabric into a dress. (I only wish he could have stored it in a refrigerator or something, and sent it down the runway the way it looked the day before.)
My favorites from this challenge: Kelli (the winner), who managed to create something that really looked like artsy-fartsy fabric out of freakin' bleach and vacuum cleaner bags, and Terri, who wasn't in the top three but who I thought made a really cute top out of woven mop heads. (She could have gone the disastrous mop-head direction of Wendy Pepper, and I was delighted she didn't.)
My bottom 3: same as the judges. Blayne was horrific, but at least he tried to use unexpected materials. Stella...like I said, my namesake is a hot mess. Reminds me of that hideous garbage-bag thing Vanessa sent down the runway in season 1, but even worse because she wasn't even trying. But as bad as those two were, Jerry was clearly auf-ful. At least Stella's sort of looked like it could have been a decent outfit if it were better executed. Jerry's was just a big hot mess. Horrible materials, bad concept, and the execution on the dress wasn't too great either.
An aufing I DON'T agree with...
Kherington on SYTYCD. Sigh. I thought for sure Comfort would go home again -- she's been in the bottom group so many times, I thought for sure she'd lose the popularity contest. But nooooo, we're stuck with her for another week. Sorry Nigel, I don't agree that she's the best hip-hop girl the show has seen -- give me S3's Sara over Comfort any day. I'm bummed she gets to stay over Kherington, who seems to have been screwed over by not having the best choreography to work with this week. :( As for Gev, he was totally growing on me and I'm sorry he won't be on the show any longer, but I would have been much sadder to see anyone else go. Mark Kanimura is so great at getting into character when he dances, and his crazy solo style is so much fun to watch. Then there are Twitch and Joshua, who continually surprise me -- have there ever been b-boys on the show before who have been so adept at learning other dance styles? And Will...if Will doesn't win the whole thing, I'll be PISSED (and that has nothing to do with how little clothing he wears in most of his dance numbers). LOVE HIM.
