Short, but it didn't need to be any longer. Small perfect scenes, and my heart breaks for Mycroft who will, I think, never quite recover.

A magnificent piece of work by both writer and translator.

This is breathtaking.

There are so many things I love about this amazing story: the eulogy ("And when faced with imminent death his first thought was to save his friend and colleague"); the inscription on the tombstone ("noble and tenacious"); Sherlock unable to go to the funeral for himself but willing to go to say goodbye on his brother's behalf; John embracing Jenny, knowing Lestrade's last efforts were for him (but his last thoughts were for her); Anthea, silently trying to support Mycroft, beautifully in character.

But what will haunt me the longest will be the depiction of poor Mycroft in his office, while the recording on his screen shows Lestrade working in his. This utterly breaks my heart (in a good way). jane_doe221 - and you, through your masterful translation - have captured his painful self-restraint and grieved longing so perfectly. He will never recover fully from this, it's clear. And how tragic, that his position dictates that he can't even admit in public to having known Lestrade at all.
