My watch stopped a couple of days ago, so I used my lunch break to go and get a new battery. I just picked the first place that Google pulled up, which turned out to be a woman working independently in a tiny office down the street. She fixed my watch in about 30 seconds (which sure beats the hour wait time at the mall repair shop). Unfortunately, it turned out that she didn't take credit cards, and I didn't have any cash or my checkbook.
"That's OK," she said, before I could offer to leave the watch or my ID and come back with money. "Send me a check in the mail. I trust you."
She didn't even make me leave my name or any contact information. She trusts me, for no reason.
Of course, it occurred to me that I could get away with not sending the money, but I didn't even consider it for a second. I'm certainly not going to punish someone for having faith in a stranger.
It's a little thing, but it made my day.
