It occurred to me today that Danny is, for all his ranting, and his aggressiveness as a detective, very passive and very accepting of whatever other people want. Oh he'll bitch about it until the cows come home, as he goes along with whatever.
Rachel wants to move to Hawaii, he goes. Steve wants him on the task force, he goes (sure, not as much choice there, but he didn't even try to fight it). Rachel wants him back, he goes. Rachel wants to leave town, he goes...until he has a more compelling reason he has to stay. Rachel wants to take Grace away for Christmas, he gives in.
Steve wants to go hiking, he goes. Steve wants to go fishing, he goes. Steve says "You're coming over for Christmas," he goes.
The list is very long.
So I'm fascinated by this sudden spine he's grown about the custody, and how it coincides with him getting comfortable in Hawaii. He has a nicer place, he has family (his walking into Steve's on Halloween and interrupting them with his Grace crisis was EXACTLY what I would picture him doing to his brother back home a few years ago). He has something to fight for, and support, and it's just really interesting. But then I love seeing shows with consistent character growth over time. Call me crazy.
Not even sure what my point is here, just that it's fascinating to me, to see what they're doing with him (and with all the characters).
