They say that life can throw you for a loop sometimes. This must be one of those times, at least for my parents anyway. They're at a time in their lives where they should just be enjoying themselves. Traveling, spending time with the grandkids and overall doing things they like to do. There's no alarm everyday calling them to work and no general agenda to the day.

Then they decided to sell their house due to neighborhood issues. Alright, that's a pretty big upheaval especially after living in their home for over 30 years. But, they seem to be looking forward to living in a new place and are shopping for a new house while trying to seel the old one. Just something else to add to their day.

Along with the doctors appointments. Dad has been seeing doctors more routinely since his bypass surgery 3.5 years ago. He even goes for annual checkups, which is when his doctor noted a slightly elevated PSA test. It was still normal, but was higher than it was the previous year. Off to a specialist and more tests. I felt bad because I had forgotten to ask my mother about his biopsy results the week after he went in. I remembered the following week and asked which is when my mother quickly said things were OK and moved on to a new topic.

Fast forward to dinner last night at their home....a birthday dinner for my dad. My mother told us kids that he wanted to tell us something and I immediately knew. I could have kicked myself for not noticing more when my mother glossed over the results. They weren't normal. Luckily, it appears that it was caught very, very early. At this point I can't think highly enough about the physician who caught the elevated blood test result. If not for him, this could have gone on until symptoms appeared, and maybe by then it would have been too late.

The day after tomorrow they head off on a vacation. Upon their return he will begin 8 weeks of daily radiation treatments. The prognosis is real good though and that's all we can grasp onto for now.
