It's September 11th again. Today it was a dreary, dismal day filled with rain, grey clouds and an eventual thunderstorm.
September 11, 2001 started off as a glorious day with a beautiful blue sky and a strong sun. Not a cloud was to be seen in the sky and the temperature was very comfortable. That all changed just before 9:00 AM. With the sun still shining, the day became a nightmare. The blue sky was befouled by thick smoke rising from the ruins of lower Manhattan. The vista in the distance from the office was forever changed as the Towers fell. It was a foreshadowing of life itself. Everything changed after that.
Sure, like goes on and we go through our daily activities. Life is enjoyable and wonderful and truly worth living to the fullest. Then, September 11th rolls around again and you're reminded of the evil in the world. Evil lurks every day as evidenced by the news reports. Many people live a horror every day. Call us blessed, call us lucky, but Americans never suffered in such a way before as they do in other parts of the world. Evil never truly touched down on American shores by foreign hands like this before.
Today felt as September 11th should be. A mournful day with mournful weather. The wrath of the thunderstorm wreaking havoc, punishing everyone with the torrential downpour, brilliant lightning and booming thunder. This is how a day of mourning should feel it seems, with weather to match.
Yet, at the end of the day, the rain stopped, the humidity tamped down and the temperature cooled off. Everything outside smelled fresh and clean as if to remind us that it was time to resume our days, living life as it should be.
