Where was I?
Second time this week there has been a kangaroo munching underneath the walkway between the two main buildings at work.:)
Very good long thunderstorm last night - you may have heard me bouncing:) Up to several flashes per second at peak. This also was a good chance to test the tent which is still put up in the back yard. Fine mist coming though during the downpour but that was all, so with waterproofing (Z still to decide on method) should be fine for Festival.
Just to see if I could, while waiting for the van to work... Hair is now in french plaited pigtails... Only took about 10 minutes too.
Thank you to manus for the tiered skirt instructions, which arrived yesterday.
Liked the style, and had been seeing them a lot around the shops but with variable prices and mediocre to atrocious construction and finishing. I had given in and pick up a black one with alternating tiers of plain black with black on black brocadeish patterns from the markets. Had to remove the white sequins from that though.
Had already (~ 2 weeks ago) started one out of crinkly muslin, using the instructions from here. Fabric was a bit heavy/thick for the given lengths but works quite reasonably with half and since according to those instructions you do the gathering on one half and then the other... I now have a nearly finished skirt with only the hem to go, and the pieces for another cut out and ready to go. Will probably dye the fabric though. Not a fan of cream/off white.
Next one may have less hand sewing on it - there is not particular reason for a lot of the hand sewing on this one bar the fact that the sewing machine and I are not on speaking terms over tensioning at the momment and it was far more relaxing to hand sew in front of B5. The tiers were machined together though - not that relaxed.
Stupidly easy to make (strips of fabric sewn together till you get the right length for each layer, gather and go - no fabric waste) and if you could get the lace, the tiered with inset lace between layers should be easy as well.
Also some nice jacket cuts coming into style. Slightly more difficult to make yourself though (bloody sleeves). Pity they keep picking such crap fabrics and colours to make them out of.

* Which would normally include myself but apparently the fashion world has cottoned on to the elements of good skirts and not bad military style jackets (for a little while at least - it will of course vanish soon). Construction and fabrics (and price) can still leave a bit to be desired though.
