Two posts in two days, how crazy!
A few weeks ago I had some pain in my lower stomach. It was a Saturday, so I couldn't go to my regular doctor, and I really didn't feel like sitting around in a hospital all day like that - and it went away after not moving for a while - so I didn't get it checked out. It was gone the next day, so I put it down to some random stomach thing. Then, exactly two weeks later on another Saturday, I got the same pain, but since, again, simply not moving kept it down, I didn't go to the hospital, either. It was gone again the next day, but I went to my doctor the following Monday anyway. He sent me to a hospital for further testing, and there, a large ovarian cyst was diagnosed. (That took all day, btw...)
I went to my regular gynecologist the same week, and she told me to wait as the body usually digests the cyst all on its own.
Today, I had another check-up with her, and well, it didn't. In fact the cyst had grown and now split up in four chambers (I shouldn't have named it Agnetha, afer all...). She sent me back to the same hospital to set up an appointment for surgery. If you think this is so not something I wanted to deal with around Christmas, you would be right! With all the holidays coming up it wasn't so easy to find a date, but then the head surgeon decided that the best thing would be to do it tomorrow!
This will be my first ever surgery and in fact the first time I'll be in a hospital for treatment since more than 25 years ago! They're doing it under general anesthesia - which is kind of sad since I'd be very interested in seeing the inside of my stomach.
Depending on how the surgery goes and how late it'll be when I wake up I'll be allowed to go home tomorrow evening, otherwise probably on Friday morning. And then probably stay with my parents until after Christmas, so cue some frantic packing and doing last minute stuff in my appartment.
So if you want a Christmas card and haven't asked for it yet, please do so
here (Livejournal) or
here (Dreamwidth) and I can mail it out tomorrow morning.
