Preparations for our hiking vacations are slowly coming together. Right now I'm mentally going through my packing list and throwing stuff out.
Do I really need a third, nice, shirt? Nah, it won't be warm enough to ever see it, anyway.
Do I want drag around a bra for non-hiking days (I don't plan on wearing one for hiking, it's just an extra strap on your shoulder)? I don't think so.
Hm, what about the second pair of pants? Small foldable backpack to be used as hand luggage and stuffed with shopping, or will a large plastic bag suffice? Do I saw off half of my toothbrush again? Are a spork and nail scissors (which my sister insists on taking) enough for anything that might need cutting or do I need a pocket knife?
We booked a rental car for 24 hours on Lewis and Harris, so we don't have to rely on busses, which run very infrequently anyway. It should be enough time to tick off some of the sights (standing stones!) and leave us time to explore Stornoway, the capital, for the rest of the second day. It's an electric car, which I find pretty exciting and is part of the reason why we chose it. Also, using the charging points is free, it was the cheapest car, and it's an automatic.
I might also already be planning next year's Rome convention vacation. Ahem. Because why not take two more vacation days before the con and use them along with the weekend before to make a stop in Florence? Maybe throw in a day trip to Pisa, as well? I could go by train again instead of flying.
