The last time I posted was last year?!? Oh my.
Like everyone else I am torn between laughing and crying about the complete chaos, sorry, fine-tuned machine the White House seems to have become. It hasn't even been a month yet.
Personally, I will not visit the US while that man is president and will avoid layovers at a US airport. If a president can - and will - on a random whim decide who to let into the country, who's to say he won't just one day decree that German citizens can't enter. Or redheads.
On a happier note, the Rome convention is coming soon. As usual, I have waited till prices went higher to book my transport. I rather liked going by train last year, but unfortunately, the German train company does not operate night trains anymore. They are now operated by the Austrian train company. I can book the train from my home station to Rome, but for some reason, I can't book the return trip.
And as much as I'd like to take a long-distance coach, which is the cheapest option, a 19 hours journey is a bit much and would cost me additional vacation days.
So current plan is to fly in Wednesday morning, stash my luggage at the airport for the day, attend the convention, and take the bus to Lido di Ostia in the evening to the hostel where I stayed last year. That worked out well. I will not take the bike this time, though. Then I want to fly back on Tuesday. Now I should actually book all that...
