There's a documentary on tv about boybands. They spoke shortly about the relationship between Eloy de Jong (of Caught in the Act) and Stephen Gately (of Boyzone) and their coming out, which was apparently not quite voluntary. Eloy said that he was constantly afraid that his being gay could get out, and Stephen's manager once said that "it wasn't cool [when the band formed] to have a gay guy in the band". We also have Lance coming out years after Nsync was done.
And I'm a bit puzzled as to why. Were there really that many negative reactions to both instances or any after that? (See, it seems Mark Feehily of Westlife is gay, too. I didn't even know that, that's how much it not pinged on my radar.) Then again, while I was a fan of a couple of boybands and preferred their members "available", I never wished death to any of their girlfriends. And I was very happy for Stephen and Eloy back then. I even named my gay Sims couple after them years ago. :)
The documentary is very interesting, by the way, but the editing is horrible! They're jumping around chronologically and between bands.
ETA Aaaaah, and they totally butchered both Lance's and JC's last names! "Base" and "Chaa-ses".
In other music news, me and my mom saw James Blunt on Thursday. It was a small(ish) concert with an audience of 5200, open air in the park of a local castle. The weather was great and the concert was amazing.
Oh, also fitting the theme: A close city had their Christopher Street Day parade (Pride parade) today. I only saw about half of it because I had so much else to do today. It was enough, however, to get a flower and a condom. ;)
