My neck is so stiff, I can hardly move without pain. I left work early today, and I'm seriously considering seeing a doctor (my workplace wants a doctor's note even if we only stay home for a day) if it's worse tomorrow. Or the same, really. I'm applying heat with the cute cherry stone pillow that I got from
_bettina_ once. It helps a bit, but only while it's on, it seems.
So, hi. Long time no see. I couldn't even go to Camp this year. Peru always takes a big chunk out of my vacation days. I also need to save a few for the obligatory vacation over Christmas and New Year's when my company is closed. (That's why I like going to Peru during Christmas time, I have to take the time off anyway.) So there was really only time for one more thing, and I've decided I want to go hiking.
I'm going to walk the
Hadrian's Wall Path in the UK, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west. I was briefly thinking of the Camino de Santiago (Jakobsweg) in Spain, but I think that path is too crowded for my tastes. I'm also so not the type to go on a pilgrimage. So last weekend I finally booked - a train ticket. :) I've always wanted to take a train to London and go through the Channel Tunnel. Even if various people on the internet agree that it's over far too quick and very anti-climatic. But I like trains, I don't mind spending six hours on one (or three), and I finally found a cheap offer for reasonable train times (meaning no being stuck for eight hours in Brussels at night).
From London I'll take another train to Newcastle, maybe spend a day in York. Or rather on the way back, probably. I want to avoid going to a place where I could buy things until after I have dragged all my luggage 135 km (84 miles) through the countryside. Of course there's also a service offering to drive your luggage from town to town and have it waiting for you there, but I do actually want to do it all on my own.
I have a new hamster. She's a white one called Hedwig; I'm sticking to the theme of the Harry Potter owls. And yes, I totally chose the name first and then picked the appropriate color. She's really cute. She loves digging and refuses to enter her house via the door but digs a tunnel underneath the door.
