Week 6 Blog Question:
Part 1: Reflection
Now that we're at almost the half-way point in the term, reflect a moment. What has been the most useful or interesting aspect of studying literature for you, so far? What do you still want to learn? Any concerns or fears?
What I have found interesting is all the hidden messages you can find while reading a story. Before, I would just read a story and take it for what it was. But now I have be reading and re-reading stories and thinking more deeply about what the meaning of certain things might be. I still think I need to learn a lot about everything that we have learned so far. I find the course to be quit speedy. Going quickly from one topic to the next, so I think that maybe next time I read a book ill take my time and really look into what I am reading. My number one concern or fear is that I am not doing any of this right. I know that everyone interrupts everything different, so I hope what I’m thinking isn’t way too out there or that I am not missing too much.
Part 2: Looking ahead
Define the following terms:
1. Hamartia- “Is a tragic flaw“.
2. Hubris- “Is excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance“.
3. Catharsis- “Is the purging of
the emotions or relieving of emotional tensions, especially through certain kinds of
art, as tragedy or
music.”
