Bad Guys Need Killin'

As soon as Sergeant Dusty Mehra entered her quarters, she pulled off her boots, kicking them across the room. Stripping off her BDU's next, she flopped down on her bed. Her roommate, Sergeant Jessika Wang was off world on a mission with the agronomy department and wouldn't be back for three days. She had their quarters to herself, and that was perfectly fine with her; she had no desire for company.

Captain Vega was dead. Dusty had enjoyed teasing the captain, as much as she could without Major Teldy reprimanding her, about how young she looked. Vega should have been on the cover of some glossy fashion magazine, not carrying around a P-90. Hell, Dusty thought; Vega was a better shot than most of the guys. Now she was dead, at the hands of some zombie; too young to be dead, but she was.

Beckett had asked her, during the mission, why she had transferred from the SGC. Like the smartass she prided herself on being, she had quipped that she transferred because Pegasus had more bad guys that needed killin'. Yeah, bad guys, not good guys; Vega was one of the good guys.

She got up and walked over to the little refrigerator, rummaging through Wang's fruit juices to find a beer, her last beer. She popped the tab, then gulped half the beer down in one swallow. She kicked a trashcan across the room, murmuring aloud, "Shit, what a crap mission, Mehra." Dusty sat back down on the bed, the day's events racing through her memory. Vega's dead, Teldy's going to be in a horrid mood forever, there were zombies, and worse of all, she'd had to babysit Beckett and Porter while they made goo goo eyes at each other. Crap, if she wanted to read a romance novel, she'd brought one.

Dusty drank the rest of her beer in two smaller gulps, then got up to retrieve the trash can, so she could throw the empty beer can away. She didn't want to hear Wang's bitching about keeping their quarters neat. She walked over to the narrow window and looked out over the darkening sky, watching the lights of Atlantis brighten. She admitted there was one other bad thing about the mission. Certainly not bad as losing Vega, nothing was that bad, but she had pissed off her commanding officer. Sheppard was a good commander. She hadn't believed it at first, but the colonel was a straight shooter, never asking them to do anything he wouldn't do. She sighed, she needed to learn not to be so aggressive and choose her times to question command. She laughed and muttered softly, "Hell, if I can last with Teldy as team leader, I can survive anything."

Watching the fading sunlight, she decided that there was one good thing about the day. They got the bad guys, and tomorrow she'd get her chance again. Yeah, bad guys needed killin', and she'd keep doing what she was doing; Vega deserved no less.
