I think the saddest thing people can possibly do is go up to you and give you a "Vote for Me" for whatever they're running for without telling us what the hell their campaign plan is. Am I suppose to just assume that they're going to do a good job. That is why I have decided to include myself into SGA starting next year, along with the ( Read more... )

I don't really know who you are and this post is meant to simply enlighten you. I want to help you understand what is wrong with what you stated. My name is Angelina Pierce and this past year I was a Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences. Tonight I was just re-elected for Senator of the Mitchell College of Business. I agree with your opinion on campaigning. I very much hate how it's based on who has the best flyers and who knows the the most people. I sincerely wish it would be based on who wants what is best for the students. I honestly want to do that and make sure people are treated fairly and do the best job I can. And I also encourage you to join SGA, it sounds to me that you are concerned about the campus, at least I hope you are.

The SGA allots its funding to deserving organizations. There are many stipulations in this and they have to show us many details on why they are deserving of the money. We have the money to give, and we are glad to give it, but we want people who deserve it to receive it. I do not think it is fair to compare clubs to fraternities. All of these organizations on campus do different things for students, and supports our school in many different ways. Many, MANY organizations receive funding, and all of their funding combined is more than what the Greeks receive.

I do not know which meetings you attended, either budget or regular. However, to anyone not involved with SGA, it's understandable why you believe they get funded over other organizations. There are a reasonable amount of Greeks in the SGA, and those students requesting funding KNOWS who their representatives are. They speak with them before the meetings, and understand what they can receive funding for, they know how to fill out the paperwork. They go into that meeting knowing what they can get and everything gets easily passed because of it. I have also done this with organizations I am involved with, I guide them in what we can provide to the organization. I have witnessed clubs requesting money who did not talk to us previously and were denied. But whenever they come to speak to us about it afterwards, we will explain to them what went wrong, and what we are allowed to do for them and how to fix the problem. Those organizations that listen to us come back to a meeting soon thereafter and receive their funding.

To quickly end this because it is getting too long, SGA's funding comes through reimbursements. Which means we reimburse the organization after they pay their own money and provide receipts for EVERYTHING that we pay for. I can assure you, this is not on alcohol or anything else along those lines.

I know the Meteorology Club President, and he told me tonight that they received all their requested funding this semester. I did not mention any of this to him, I just asked him. So please do not think badly of me, I am just trying to enlighten you.

I appreciate the note. Obviously, everything I said in the previous entry was on account of a disastrous day, but thanks for explaining to me more about what SGA is all about. You'll be seeing me next school year. Look forward to meeting you.
