We Aint Dead Yet!!!
This Saturday, at the Califur Staph Meeting, We were shown a Documentary made by Furries For Furries. FurDoc, which had been in production for awhile.
Overall, a Fantastically well-done video: Great interviews, fantastic people, and pretty darned on the spot for most facts.
EXCEPT FOR ONE:
A Certain Interviewee on there mentions that (more or less quoted, I cant remember the full quote but forgive as Im taking this from memory) "Furry Fandom started as a Small Convention in Southern California, whom originally gave the Furrry Fandom a particular Face that most of the furrs didint agree with. This caused all the other conventions to form around the country, and That convention shriveled up and Died..."
I hate to tell you this, but WE AINT DEAD YET!!!
ConFurence was the name of that original Convention. I Am a Proud veteran of That convention all those years ago, my First Furry Convention being ConFurence 5 (for a Saturday). Since then I have been going to Each and Every convention that these core people have put together.
And, Unlike what someone wants the young New furrs to believe, The Core people who Started ConFurence have Continued on the ConFurence spirit and Traditions all the way into CaliFur: The Prancing Skilitare Continues to be the center of all of CFs meetings, and thus the Original Southern California Furry Convention is still pretty much Alive and Well.
Sure we have had plenty of bumps in staff, Sure the Chair has changed a few times. But the Core People, the ones who Started the whole concept of a Furry Convention, are still Very much alive, well and Kicking. I Am Proud to have known these people for the past 15 years, and I hope to continue being able to contribute wherever I can:
This Year, I Am Cabaret Lead, Proud to continue bringing Mature-minded Entertainment to the Original Furry community, Here in Southern California, the Center of American Entertainment. I will Continue the tradition of bringing in One-Time In-Person Only acts that can only be seen On Stage here at the Convention. If you miss it, Sorry!
Anyway, to finalize my original thought: The Spirit of ConFurence Lives On. It felt Wonderful Saturday Night sitting in the Same Booth at the Cafe that we used to do dinner at all those years ago, when I ran the Fursuit Track from ConFurence 11 thru 13. I Will make it a point to correct people if they hear misinformation about where Furry started.
