I guess it's been a while since I've said anything, because I don't really have much worthwhile to say. I've had a good summer, working at a crappy temp job for crappy pay for a really crappy boss at a pretty great company (MassMutual). I just came back from a really nice 2 week vacation in which I spent all the money I made from the job. I'm moving to Boston in 3 weeks to start school and I've really started panicking about it. I don't really remember how to do well in school, and more importantly I think I have forgotten everything I learned at WPI and replaced it with knowledge about my favorite TV shows. Hence the mind-numbing fear I felt at Wal-Mart today when I bought a mini-fridge. To be honest, the most knowledge I have about Harvard classes is what I saw in Legally Blonde where she didn't do any reading before the first day and was kicked out of class and then that bitchy girl tricked her into dressing as a bunny to a study party or something. I don't even know what classes I am supposed to take! I have to meet with my advisor after I move in, but all I can think of doing is sitting there and staring at him. So in the meantime I am clinging desperately to my last few weeks of freedom and happiness. And TV!

Emmys are dumb The article is kind of long, and it is slightly old news, but the idea is that Ellen Burstyn is a famous actress who was in an HBO movie for exactly 14 seconds. She received an Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a tv movie. The reason apparently is that HBO automatically submits everyone involved in a production for Emmy consideration, although they did not even list her name in the screener they sent out to voters. The Emmy voters look at the consideration list, see her name in the cast, and say "she is a great actress! Let's vote for her!" So it is basically proof that Emmy voters don't bother even watching the tapes they are given, what they are supposed to be judging, they just pick out the big or respected name. It's why they love to reward shows that are ending and movie stars, like Geena Davis, Will and Grace, Stockard Channing, and William Shatner. Meanwhile, they nominate House for best drama but forget to even nominate Hugh Laurie for best actor, when he is the entire show! And they leave out Lauren Graham from the Gilmore Girls for the like 10,000th time. The Emmy nominations this year were so ridiculous that I wasn't even going to comment on them but this story is so unbelievable that I couldn't resist saying something.
