Wow, I never do public posts.
Okay guys, I know this is like a week or so late, but I really need to vent about this. A Song of Ice and Fire is a pretty small fandom (at the moment anyway) not in that a lot of people don't read the books, but in that if you see someone's handle on one forum, you know who they are in all the other ones. Whatever. Some small fandoms are great.
One forum in particular, Westeros.org, is co-run by a man and a woman who usually moderate their board in a mature, polite fashion.
I never post on Westeros.org, but I have lurked there, reading through some conversations and threads on my favorite characters and polls and things like that. Sometimes I came across some real women-hating gems as far as threads go, such as
Worst Mother in Westeros,
So Was Lyanna Stupid or Something?,
Cersei's Idiocy ...only to name a few of the horrifyingly titled threads I've seen on that board.
This is the same forum calling an AsoIaF comm I'm part of here on LJ "shitty little idiots" because we enjoy making humorous posts, rail on bad fanfic, and have fun making graphics, basically we enjoy ourselves and try not to take things too seriously. So what if we like sparkle text? It's a joke. It's our comm and it's locked. Even if you DO like it, you don't have to see it.
I also think that ontd_asoiaf is well-moderated, everyone is v nice and (usually) mature when it comes to characters and subjects they don't particularly enjoy. No one is over-the-top rude, and it makes for being part of a great comm.
I GUESS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS "WESTEROS.ORG CAN EAT BIG A DICK".
Don't hate on a community you can't even SEE THE POSTS IN.
