I finally made it to Bangkok, after 30+ hours of traveling! I slept a bit, took a shower, ate some Japanese food (yeah, weird, I know)and now I have nothing better to do than write about what I've done so far. The people I am staying with (David and his Thai-speaking wife) are super nice and their son (Jeff) is an adorable 13-year old brainiac! As I am writing this, I am sitting with a plate of unbelievable-looking fruit in front of me (although it all definitely looked stranger when it wasn't cut up and such).
Anyways, backtracking a bit, I had 30 or so hours all by myself surrounded by strangers who didn't speak my language...not that I expected them to, it just made it extra lonely. I'm a big baby and I haven't done that much traveling out of the country and never all by myself, so needless to say I was a little blue.
So, I'm sitting in the LAX airport at my gate, with about an hour to kill before boarding the plane for Hong Kong. I had read so much my eyes were blurry, so I just sat there looking around. Then I got a phone call from Jeff and even though I had only been gone for 6 or 7 hours, I started crying because I missed home that much. After realizing I must've looked insane, I dried my eyes, got on the plane, sat in my seat, and started crying again!
I finally pulled myself together long enough to think about what an exciting opportunity this was and how much fun I would have, which made me think about my other exciting opportunity--New York--which...yup, made me cry yet again (I really hate leaving my comfort zone and people that I love :-/)! Well anyway, after my sobfest(s) I was too tired to cry or think anymore, so I scarfed an Ambien along with my Chinese noodles and Coke Zero on the plane and proceeded to pass out!
14 hours later, I'm in Hong Kong, and 3 more hours after that, I landed here...and that's where all of this began! So, after a shower, a nap, and some food, I am feeling much better, although it is really freakin' hot (well it's about the same as South Florida, only minus any air conditioning!) and I am looking forward to spending time with David's daughter when she gets here on Saturday. I'm sure I will have much more to report on in a few days.
