What Was I Thinking?

50 Things to Blog About #14: The day you started blogging. What were you thinking?

This is a good question.  I went back and read my first blog post here which occurred on October 11, 2002.  Yes, I started this journal over 12 years ago.  I was 19 years old.  That's a long time ago.

I didn't introduce myself.  So I don't think I had any sort of direction for this journal (not that I do now).  I had been a big diary writer throughout high school so I think I was just intending to use this in the same way, a place where I wrote thoughts or updates on my life.  My life was pretty drama filled back in those early days and I don't think I had any intention of holding back and, given my posts over the next year, I certainly didn't.

This particular entry was documenting my first trip to Canada.  I got drunk off of two drinks.  I wasn't sure I liked it.  It's funny because, of course, after I turned 21, I got much more used to drinking and did enjoy it for several years.  But now, I'm back to where I was at 19.  Not much affects me very quickly.  However, one thing is different now - I feel it soooo much worse the next day, even after one or two drinks.  It's unfortunate what getting old can do to you.

So yeah, I definitely don't think I was overthinking the journal, just figured it would be fun.  And I probably never thought of the fact that I would be looking back at it 12 years later, married, in my own house, with absolutely no contact with the people I went to Canada with.  It doesn't take long for things in life to change, although it kind of seems like they never do.  They do.  You just don't know until you look back and realize how far you've actually come.
