summer creeps

i associate summer with creepiness. i think it's because, in middle school, during summer vacation, i was pretty much constantly on my own, and that meant watching things on tv that i couldn't watch when my parents were home--like e! crime investigations about people like anna nicole smith, or deadly women, or the lgbt network. (all of which, besides the lgbt network, were pretty morbid.) but more than anything else i watched a haunting. idk if any of you outside the US know about a haunting, but it's a terrible documentary series that tells the stories of various haunted houses, complete with awful re-enactments and an iconic deep-voiced narrator (whose opening monologue is seared into my brain.) (DUN DUN DUN in this world............there is real.........................evil.............)

so summer has kind of evolved into Creepy Season. it's a combination of the eerieness of being alone in a quiet sunlit house (one of the absolute creepiest settings for some reason, imo) and the freedom to sit at the computer or the tv or the library for hours on end looking for things that are morbid and disturbing and horrifying. i used to scare myself shitless as a pre-teen after turning off one of those dozens of ghost shows on the discovery channel and having to wander through the house with no one in it. it's the time of year people around here head out to goatman's bridge (the nearest haunted place in town) or go out on the ghost tours that the city offers, because it's hot and humid and you have time to lie around and imagine terrible things. last summer i picked up a ton of library books about weird america, and i watched every horror movie i could find. i can guarantee you that before fall rolls around i will have spent at least an entire day scouring the high octane nightmare fuel web original pages on tvtropes looking for anything new that's popped up. and i will bet you any amount of money that there'll be at least a few nights that i stay up as late as possible trying to freak myself out.

it's hard to love summer in texas, because it's nothing but mosquitoes and heat and feeling stale, but now that summer is Creepy Season, i like it a lot more.

which i guess is my way of asking, what's your Creepy Season? what time of year gets you in the mood, if any at all? and if you have any creepy shit lurking on the internet that you'd like to share, GIMME.

also, someone really needs to start a goddamn spn horror comm.
