IIIIIII'M exhausted.
but the colloquium was this weekend! and i was lucky enough to get to spend the whole weekend there with
kalliel, who may just be my brain-twin when it comes to fandom, god bless 'er.
flew down to chicago friday and we checked in to our hotel and then headed to dinner with the other speakers. it was nice in that the university paid for our meal, and not-so-nice in that we seemed to get stuck right smack in the middle of all the social-justice-oriented panelists, lmfao. so we spent the whole night talking to each other, WHICH IS FINE AND GREAT, because she is the finest and the greatest.
the colloquium itself FLEW by really. sat in on the family/love/death/codependence panel, which was pretty good and probably one of the better panels, even if the moderator WAS throwing some slight sam shade the whole time. some really cool discussion there about the corruption of heaven over the seasons. next was a panel on monsters--i was personally really into the panelist who talked about the "american melting pot" effect of spn's very global monster-base, and the panelist who talked about monstrous motherhood. we hopped out for lunch across the street and then caught the end of the screening of 10.05 (to which EVERYONE sang along, and i definitely cried at the end, ooooooops). robbie thompson's keynote happened after that, which was probably my fave part of the day--he handled questions about charlie with grace and gave some really cool insight into how writers' rooms and the pitching process work. he held a writing workshop afterwards which wasn't terribly insightful for me only because he operates exactly the same way i do when it comes to writing, but it was cool to see how much of the process we shared.
kalliel's panel was next, and was focused on writing about spn, which i really enjoyed! her presentation was (naturally) fabulous and we got some really nice defenses of things like fic and the intersection of academia and fandom and the reclamation of the word "fan."
mine was the last panel--morality and religion--and i think it went pretty well! i particularly liked my co-panelist's take on the trinity in spn and how it's subverted. i didn't make a damn fool of myself with my own presentation, either, which is always a plus, lmfao. we stuck around afterwards for a few minutes until the conversation went inevitably into the realm of negativity at which point we skedaddled
aaand then we ordered tiny burgers and talked at length about everything from fic to series wish-fulfillment to stories about small towns we've been to or heard of, and this morning she saw me off at the train station, bless. and i miss her because she is the best, goodbye. you may see a remix of her latest fic from me tonight, if i can keep my eyes open long enough. being around someone so intelligent and passionate about the work we do as fans was super invigorating. <33 luv you, girl.
ok, well i am tired and i am gonna take a nap while i wait for my laundry to finish
here's some pics she snapped of my panel/the two of us!!
