It speaks!

But not about anything interesting. Work is seriously dull today, so have that end-of-year meme.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Got a permanent contract.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?
Pretty sure I didn't make any. If I did, I think I kept it, eventually.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope, but there are an awful lot on the way.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully not.

5. What countries did you visit?
Um Blackpool? It's in The Frozen North, that counts as foreign, right? Now I'm earning a reasonable wage things are looking up for holidays next year.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Not sure, really. There's not that much I want.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can't remember the date, but my first foray into Meeting People Off The Internet was rather good.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my job, I guess. That's rather depressing.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing to finish my monitor project due to spending the entirety of the summer drunk.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I have now had a cold for four months.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Big flappy coat, by far. There's not even any competition unless I buy myself a laptop in the next couple of days, apart from maybe Iron Man on DVD.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
/qotw on b3ta.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Large swathes of America, the Labour Party, banks, I could go on for hours.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Beer.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I'm not sure I've got really, really, really excited about anything for at least a decade. Deep fried cheese, perhaps?

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
It's an old one, but I've started listening to the band again this year so Echobelly - Great Things.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier, I reckon.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Probably a little bit fatter.
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer! Yay!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Making stuff.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sleeping. Not that I don't love sleeping, but spending more than 24 hours of any given weekend asleep doesn't leave enough time to do other stuff. Also I would have liked to spend less time hung over, although I am happy with the amount of time I spent drunk.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas with my family.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Not really, beyond falling a little bit love with a huge variety of people.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
House, I reckon. I didn't watch a lot of TV this year.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I can't think of anyone really. I've discovered some new politicians, but I'm not sure a few additions to All Politicians, Everywhere counts as new.

24. What was the best book you read?
I think I discovered George R R Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series this year.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery of 2008?
Frank Turner, I think.

26. What did you want and get?
Permanent contract, I guess.

27. What did you want and not get?
I don't tend to want very much, really.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Iron Man, by far. Honorable mention to Hellboy II.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 28. I can't really remember, so I'm fairly sure there was drinking involved. I suspect we went to the Ballroom, and I went out with some b3ta folks another day too.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I'm not sure, really. A worldwide outbreak of karma, or at least the spontaneous combustion of several political figures?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Lazy, and featuring more hats.

32. What kept you sane?
Making sure I was sober at least two nights a week.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
It's still Claudia Black.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
I remain comprehensively enraged by New Labour.

35. Who did you miss?
Everyone I didn't see much of.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
Loads of people, but special mentions to the Aussies at work and the b3ta folks.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
People From The Internet are precisely as wrong as you feared they would be.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Mmmm-bop.

Says it all, I think.
