Every Move You Make, Every Step You Take

Don't know why, but today has felt like one of the most beautiful days of my life. No kidding. Every 15 minutes or so, I'd just look up at the sky and realize how happy I was. I got up early and sorted the various receipts, credit card statements, and binding legal contracts that I had crammed away into my desk drawers. Then I went to lunch with Hasini and as I was walking there, I realized that it was going to be a beautiful day. After lunch, I called my dad and he was cooperative and excited to have me coming home and that made me happy. Then I found myself in an underground study room in Uris Library, where I composed one page of my final Meditation paper and then found the cell-phone I want for next year with the appropriate long-distance SIM card. Within an hour, I felt the need to hit up Tower Cafe--which I only just discovered yesterday--and was ready to finish up my story, when Karina called. It's so terrible that she's not doing well, but it was just so exciting to know that I could see her soon and cheer her up! Then Stefani came by and we chilled for a few minutes, then spent an hour scouring the various levels of the library for her last research paper. I found 2 anthologies of award-winning recent short stories and checked them out. The stacks of the library are so huge it was nightmarish. I nearly hyperventilated. You'd think an English major would like to be surrounded by so many books, but I've always had an irrational fear of libraries. I think it's all because I had such a bad history of losing books and ridiculous overdue fines before the age of 10. Then Stef and I sat out in the grass enjoying the beautiful weather until she had to leave. Then I climbed on top of the library and read in the sun for an hour. Incredibly, I've actually met two of the writers of these prize-winning short stories. The first, George Saunders, is the writer I met at his book-reading a few months ago. The other, J. Robert Lennon, is actually a professor here. He plays the Moog and various other silly instruments. Then I climbed down from Olin and sat on a stone bannister in the shade of one of the Humanities buildings and enjoyed the weather some more. Eventually Stefani showed up, and we went to dinner. Dinner was ok, but immediately after, I stretched out on another stone bannister and watched the sun begin its final descent. That was when I felt the happiest, I think. Dozing on that perfectly-contoured stone bed while Stef and Kitu ran upstairs to get their things was the best part of a wonderful day. Then we went back to Olin's Libe Cafe and got sick of it just before 10pm. I have never before spent 10 hours in, on, or around a library before, but it was beautiful. I wish I could have recorded the whole thing for future reference.

I hope tomorrow's just as good.

Love you all, and can't wait to see you again!
