If they screw this up, I will never forgive the world.

From SciFi Wire....

Dark Begins Rising

So. Freaking. Excited.  I had no idea a movie based on this series was in the works, though I had heard about The Golden Compass.  That trilogy and this series should have been movies long before Harry Potter.

Reading The Grey King, and then Susan Cooper's ( Read more... )

Oh. My. Freaking. God. Okay. Must reread all those books as the last time I read them was waaaay the hell back in late elementary/early middle school and I can't remember what happened in them. *quietly squees in excitement*

And after actually reading the article... How the hell can that rat bastard be directing it? That man who directed the travesty known as The Path to 9/11? Shame Fox-Walden. Shame!

Yeah, I'm probably going to have to re-read as well. It's been ages since I read this series.

Holy crap. I am thrilled/scared to death. I LOVED these books. I wore out several copies of them and STILL reread them several times a year. I will be sad forever if the movie stinks.

Heh, on the one hand I haven't managed to read either series so if the films suck I will at least be ignorant of their being bad adaptations, not that I'll be safe if they're so bad they suck as movies all the way around, but. On the other hand being less than thrilled with The Dresden Files TV series, (Paul in the icon has been keeping me going back,) I'm well aware it could just be mediocre, neither great nor awful. Tough call. Ultimately given that mention of the Sci-Fi Channel's God awful treatment of Earthsea still makes me queasy I trust no one. B-)

I don't think it's going to be produced by ScFi. SciFi Wire regularly reports on science-fiction and fantasy related media that they have no part in.

*Snickers.* I know the Dark is Rising movie is being produced by Fox-Walden, hopefully in a similar fashion to the Disney-Walden collaboration that produced The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, it's in the article. I wasn't confused, but apparently I confused you. ;) I meant that being part of the "lets ransack the fantasy shelves for movie material" post Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter wave there's no way of knowing what the quality will be like until they've got some of it to show. And, for that matter with the way they chose to advertise The Bridge to Terabithia film you may not know without sitting down and seeing the whole movie for yourself, and by then you've spent your money. x_x
