So G'n'R has finally finished what was once an eagerly awaited new album. Sadly, it's been a decade since it became 'late'. Now, no one cares. I heard the title track, Chinese Democracy, today. It sucked. To me, it sounded more like Axl 'doing' Guns n Roses than it was Guns n Roses doing their own thing. The guitars, in a technical stylistic sense, sounded GnR, and the overall vibe was sort of GnR-ish, but Axl's voice is shot and mixed way down. One thing I like about old GnR is that you could hear the words, Axl's voice wasn't stunning, but he enunciated in a way that wasn't stilted and still sounded like singing. On this, all I heard was something about masturbation and an iron hand. I didn't hear the word chafing, but I felt it in my eardrums.
Here's hoping they clean up the mixes based on the feedback, the Philly station's listeners seemed to tank it, many begging them not to play it again.
