So Anthony Michael Hall's joined the cast of The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins. Thought I'd give a brief rundown of the possible roles the internet's guessing he'll have, and my reactions. Ignore if ya want:
Vic Sage/The Question:
Jack Ryder/The Creeper: I'll handle both at once. Although the nod to the fanboys would be great, I can't see Goyer running to guest shots of the other superheros, due to licensing issues, and because it would detract from Batman. Additionally, it would set up for long term questions about 'When are we gonna see the suer version of sage/ryder???' He might do it, given how many characters he dropped into the first movie out of comics, but it's a stretch from batman supporting chracters to other heroes.
Azrael: I can't see Goyer giving batman the smackdown so hard that someone else has to be batman. That's a REALLY vast departure from the general rule of movies that you don't take the hero out of play that completely. I think this is being speculated for physical resemblance only.
Jeremiah Arkham: This is my pick. Arkham's tall and lean, like Hall. He'd be involved in curing those exposed to the Scarecrow's gas, and need to meet with Lucius Fox to discuss progress with the cure Fox developed. Further, his assessment of Batman would make for an interesting scene, him explaining how batman's also crazy, and is encouraging attention-seeking criminals to get more wacky, in front of Bruce Wayne. Alternately, he delivers an unsettlingly accurate profile of Batman to Gordon, Bats reads it, and goes to Arkham to consult him about the Joker's actions.
There are others: The Riddler, The spectre, and so on. I dismiss them outright for ridiculousness.
Thoughts?
