Book update

I finished reading War & Peace. It took me about 3 months of scattered reading. The final page count is over 1,300. It was an interesting read, although towards the end Tolstoy starts going off on a prolific number of tangents about history and necessity and such. There are two epilogues, one of which wraps up issues for certain characters, and the other addresses philosophical issues that may or may not be found in the earlier chapters. The most interesting issue, I believe, is Tolstoy's treatment of power. He asks how it was possible for a single man (Napoleon) to declare war against Russia, and "happen" to get 600,000 Frenchmen to join his army. I'm going to reread this part of the epilogue to see what I can figure out.
Anyhoo, there it is. This was my Big Book Project for the summer (possibly the year). I definitely look forward to some lighter/shorter material! My next Big Book Project will, I think, be the Principia Mathematica by Bertrand Russell and Alfred North Whitehead (I like to call them Al & Bertie).
