So, here in the land of interviews and exams, Ana and I celebrated my birthday on Saturday when Ana took me out to eat at a very fancy local restaurant called "
Eve". Not only is it totally femme in nomenclature, but the chef personally an event for bschool women at the dean's house in October and I mentioned to Ana how delicious it was. Ana remembered that four months later and made reservations. (::swoons::)
We got all dressed up (well, Ana looked gorgeous. I managed to put in contacts, half-straighten my hair and misapply makeup before throwing on a clean sweater and fairly clean pants and borrowing her coat. She wore a dress and a special necklace and fishnets (!) and was bereft that she hadn't had enough time to look great...and I was clueless to that because she looked breathtaking!) and we were picked up by my friend Cristian and his wife to chauffeur us to the restaurant (Ana was super smart to suggest this and cabbing it home)
The food was yummmmmmy. We started by sharing appetizers of thai dumplings with carrot/lime salsa as well as black bean cream soup with cilantro pico de gallo (which we both agree was the best part of the meal). We had mojitos (which were good but not as good as the ones we had in NYC with
mania_revisited and split the complimentary mini-baguette with three different artisan butters: herbed, salmon, and after Ana asked, what we discovered was guava.
For the main course Ana had the seafood creamed curry which looked and tasted great and I had the beef tenderloin with dried fruit compote, cheese, and curry scalloped potatoes. It was delicious and so filling that we had to "rest the food" before ordering dessert. This was a tough tough choice. I ended up going with the Autumn fruit crumble with maple cream and dolce de leche gelato, and Ana had the triple chocolate mousse. They brought mine with a candle in it and gave us complementary glasses of champagne (Ana had mentioned in the reservation that it was my birthday. Thankfully they didn't sing)
So then we had a cab called while Ana paid the bill (THANKS ANA!) and we waited. And we waited some more. It was snowing fairly heavily, so we went to wait at the bar, and Ana pointed out a bottle of tequila with Frida Kalo on the front, and the bartender brought it over and asked us if we wanted some and Ana said it was my birthday and asked if she could have the bottle. (Ballsy!) He said "Sure. if you guys will each have a shot, I'll pour out the rest and you can have it!" so we did the shots and I paid (Ana was scared it would be like $100 per shot. It was not.) and we got the bottle! So by this time someone took our originally ordered cab, so the bartender called another one for us, and we waited longer and finally a cab came and we got home and Ana kicked my ass in Imaginiff and then we had more fun, though I was admittedly pretty wasted, as one should be when celebrating one's birthday.
