Words, History, and Warnings.

I found this on Wikipedia today as I was nosing around.

Pahana is a word that comes from Hopi mythology, and refers to the lost "White Brother" whose coming to the Hopi people would herald the end of the fourth incarnation of the world, to be followed by the commencement of the fifth.

Let me rephrase that for you:  they had a word for the white man, whose arrival would signal the end of the world, prior to the white man's arrival in their lands.

As creepy as it is that they knew that the Europeans were coming, and that they knew in advance that it would mean a Ragnarök for their people, my main curiosity is:  If they were warned, why the frell didn't they get out of the way?
