Poll Still looking for a catch phrase.

OK, so this is a grudge match. Anthony Bourdain makes fun of Rachel Ray all the time on his show. Bourdain eats anything and everything, smokes too much, and wears Ramones tee shirts in the jungle. Rachel Ray? Uh, she makes burgers out of everything and likes to tip badly ( Read more... )

I don't know Anthony Bourdain but I am voting against Rachel Ray. Though I will say, I have unfortunately seen enough of her shows (since she is on before Alton Brown) to admit she does do a lot of things besides burgers. She's still annoyingly perky and the word "yummo" should be banned. I didn't know she tipped badly - that is a serious offense.

On her $40 a day show she tips badly to keep herself under the limit. She tips like 15% or something even lower and if the bill in $1.45 she will tip exactly like $.21!!

You should watch Bourdain. He is hilarious. Snarky. And drinks and smokes a lot. Mondays at 10 on the Travel channel.

Tacky much? If you can't afford to tip then you can't afford the meal you're ordering. It's that simple.

I will check him out! Sounds like my kind of guy.

The Paris episode in which he goes looking for Absinthe and gets wasters and hallucinates in Oscar Wilde's hotel room (the one he died in) is priceless!

I also highly recommend Bourdain. Not to mention, he deigns to visit places that are actually unique culinarily, instead of Ray's "food travel" show in which she often visits places that rarely have a uniqueness to them. As a would-be food traveler, I would rather visit places that are interesting and unique in the epicurean sense then places that she visits in $40. Not to mention, she does tip horribly. It's a shame really.

I have to laugh when she goes to Podunk towns. And she never dislikes anything. How is that possible? She says everything is delicious. What sort of discriminating palate is that?

I would not eat most of the things Bourdain eats, but it is amazing to watch him eat every internal organ known to man. And the "squeezle"??? (Which turned out to be porcupine in Uzbek. Brilliant!)

Did you see the recent one with the super sexy 24 hour, no toilet, no shower lahssi? I could not stop laughing.

It's not. She's like the Anti-Bobby Flay. He discerns too much, she not enough.

I would try most things that Bourdain does. I may not take more then a bite, but why not? You really learn a place when you eat what the natives (for lack of a better world) do.

No, I didn't. Unfortunately, my television has been limited to Top Chef, Lost, and dvds rented from Netflix. I'll hopefully catch more that summer is here and there's little for me to do on those long no-grad school (until July)nights.

Oh! Yes. Isn't it weird having the summer off? It is weirding me out.

I haven't seen Lost, and am afraid of Top Chef. I've been addicted to Veronica Mars and netflix.

I have to say I am really enjoying the throwdown show that Flay has now because he is getting his ass handed to him over and over.

It's only for a month, but it wierds me out nonetheless. I have an accelerated class in gender communications in July and August. 4 2.5hr classes a week for 4 weeks. It makes my head hurt thinking about it.

Top Chef was entertaining to no end, if only because of Stephen's Top Sommelier incidences and Harold's amazing ability to be simple with his food. Never watched Veronica Mars because it was opposite of Lost and crazy Islands are fascination.

I haven't seen this. What is it? I am ashamed as my lack of Food NEtworking. Apparently, there is a duo pairing of Flay and someone vs. Batali and Rachel Ray (I think) coming up on the Iron Chef America. Not sure when it's airing, but it's been taped.

Oh, it is a new Food Network show that started last week. They find someone who is really good at one particular thing like BBQ or pizza and then spring Bobby on them surprise! He challanges the person to a throwdown and they cook in front of all the dude's friends. So there is no audience for Flay. And then someone judges. He lost both bouts last time. He was pretty gracious about it. It made me almost like him.

I have nothing but part time work and thesis writing this summer. eek!

I will have to try this out. I think they probably did it to show the world that Bobby Flay isn't a conceited arse. I love his cooking, because a lot of his flavors attract me. The spicey, the meats he uses, etc. However, I detest watching him, because well, he's an ass.

Still doing the full time work. Not doing thesis until next year. It makes my head splodey to think about my thesis. it hurts to think that I have to write a thesis and try to get into a PhD program at the same time.

Ah, my MFA is only two years and there is no PhD for me, at least any time soon. My thesis is also a novel, so I am doing what I love to do. Make shit up.

The other food network people in the show argue with Flay and tell him he is doing a crappy job. He handles it very well. Plus when he shows up it is a surprise and the people get so excited to see him. Then he challanges them and they look alarmed, until they kick his ass!

I totally agree about his cooking. I lived in Santa Fe for a long time and I miss the NM/Southwestern thing with lots of chiles and lime.

Oh I have to check him out! I have heard that about Rachel, that she goes to boring trendy spots and not places that would be remotely unique or interesting. So much of our country is so so white bread. (And I'm not talking Midwest here, it's all over.)

Sometimes, she does really neat interesting places. However, not often enough to warrant me watching her show with any regularity (or at all really). I agree, but even in the most white bread places one can find truly amazing foods. Heck, I've found really great places in Dayton, OH!!

There are interesting places everywhere, you just have to look. And I do like the couple that does Road Food segments on The Splendid Table. Mmm, diner food.
