It was good thing that the act of eating breakfast required little focus, preoccupied as Guo Jia was. There was so much to think about, especially following their recent exploration and subsequent discovery. Every waking moment was marked by a certain underlying restlessness of mind; a hunger for another scrap of knowledge or bettered understanding. That was nothing new; he'd always wanted to have the solution in his grasp. The hostility of their environment made it easy to see the situation as a campaign, so the more difficult it became the greater the lure of the challenge was.
In this case, however, Guo Jia was aware that he lacked both his third shixiong or doctor Hua to intervene when he crossed the line and moved from mere focus to an inability to let go. He very much doubted that overworking himself would be a good plan, with his health as it was and under these conditions, least of all in Cao Pi's presence -- a presence that he happened to be in, at this very moment. He'd spent a day turning the fruits of their exploration over in his head with little more than new questions gained from it.
Now was a good time to take a step back from it for a short while. It was not as if there was a shortage of other trails to follow.
Guo Jia lifted his apple, then paused the motion half-way through and turned it in his grasp, watching the light reflect upon its skin.
Still, that glimpse of the West Wing... what would it have revealed in daylight? What was there to see, deeper within?
And perhaps contemplating Cao Cao's family and such a thought in close succession made it inevitable that he would remember one legend in particular; he pursued the distraction with vaguely fond amusement.
Idly, in english, he said to Cao Pi, "A pity that we lack our own thousand li eye..."
