The slight smile never fully left Subaru's face, even as he was borderline scolded by the other man who couldn't have been much older than him. He couldn't help it; he recalled a time when a simple admonishment would have him bowing and apologizing profusely, as if he'd committed some dire crime. Now, it did little more than ruffle him.

"My apologies," he assured the other, noting that Edgeworth seemed rather unsettled. He could sense the small nuances of things, and could see the subtle changes in the other man's demeanor. Edgeworth had not stammered, or lost control of his thoughts, and yet--he spoke with a sternness that was almost unnecessary, and Subaru knew immediately something was wrong.

Sitting back slightly, he thought back to the days he'd spent with the Dragons of Earth, watching them from his seat on the outside, away from the action. He had pulled himself away from the fight for the future of Earth, his interest having died along with Seishirou. It was curious, to think on it now, and wonder if the Final Battle had been put on hold, with one of its key elements plucked away. Fuuma was here, so...in essence, the Earth was safe.

For now.

"With all do respect, Edgeworth-san, my job is in part to keep such things secret from the general populace," he explained with a rather sympathetic smile. "Yet, if it is necessary to your investigation... The Kamui--or Fuuma, as you know him, is a key element in the future of the planet, and it is his eventual goal to completely obliterate humanity. It began in Tokyo...many died, property was destroyed...entire city districts leveled...his power is terrifying. I, however..."

He sighed heavily, and any trace of a smile disappeared from his face. "I have no regard for the future of this planet, or my own destiny. I never participated in any of the destruction...but I did little to stop it. I simply do not care."
