He knew it was coming, and he knew it would hurt. He'd known the moment he'd cornered that fat little doctor's assistant on his way back from a therapy, he'd known it the moment he'd tied Orochimaru up and offered him like meat to a pack of animals. He knew how brutal these people could be, how unforgiving. He'd been prepared for whatever would come once he was discovered...
...so why was he so afraid?
Heart pounding against the veins in his throat, Sasuke stood still and cold like something carved out of ice, shrinking under a heat lamp. All his will was bent on forcing the sweat to stay in his skin, holding back breaths that struggled to escape, commanding his muscles to freeze in place. He would not let Orochimaru see his fear, or even smell it. He would follow the sannin to whatever hell was planned for him, and he'd endure. He would not back down, he would not give up.
He would not surrender.
