Day: 31
Characters: Cross Marian [underzealous] & River Wenhamm [recerche]
Summary: Faced with an unbelievable death, River goes to check on the General.
DAY/NIGHT & Time: NIGHT
Status: Incomplete / Closed

Without the security thugs roaming the hallways, it was a lot easier and quicker for River to make his way down the hallway to where the General called home. As the days had drawn on, he had found some uncertain sense of peace, or at least some comfort in the regimented schedule. Wounds were healing and River could almost say he was getting used to this place. But that didn't mean he had any inclination to stick around longer than was needed.

But when the news of Allen's supposed death and Cross' own uncertain state of health, River felt those hopes for an uncomplicated escape quickly dwindling. It was with that urgency that he nearly ran through the hallways, his footfalls sounding loud in the otherwise silent halls, stopping only when he came to the General's cell door. One hand raised as he moved to knock, but almost at the same moment he dropped his hand down, shaking his head at himself. "As though he'd be in any condition to answer a door..." he murmured to himself as he turned the knob to take his entrance.

The first thing he noticed was the disassembled bed, a brow arching in faint curiosity before his gaze drew towards the mattress and the General laying upon it. River frowned, shaking his head slightly before he drew out the wad of cloth he had stuff in his pocket, moving over to the wash basin to dampen it as best he could. "I hate this place," he murmured under his breath before moving over to crouch beside the mattress, giving Cross an experimental prod with one hand.

"Still alive there, General"
