DAY/NIGHT & Time: Morning (backdated a wee bit)

Jack reached down, yanking on a metal pole until it freed itself. Shoving it into the pile he'd made (metals in one pile, possible valuables or trinkets in a second, and miscellaneous in a third), he glanced back up towards the heap of garbage. He'd gotten through quite a bit so far as he waited, half expectant, half nervous, for Nami to arrive.

Of course, he'd spoken to her several times before; it was merely placing a face to a voice-- which, apparently, she'd already done for him. Jack wasn't sure he liked the idea of her watching him as he was out of it, but there was nothing for it now. And yes, there had been-- and still, on some level, was-- lingering awkwardness and slight tension since Edge's "death" and return, but-- but she had not done the crime. Not really. Of that he was certain. There had been no malicious intent; and Jack would not be surprised if Gary or Paul had pulled the trigger themselves. He refused to believe Edge's death had been her fault.

And then, aside from his nervousness at meeting her, there was also the fact that Gary's deal still weighed heavily on his mind. Whether his book was worth the price Gary had set, or if it would be better to swallow the loss and not steal from his friends-- but it was his book-- he'd stayed up last night, debating back and forth restlessly until he'd fallen asleep, fitful and upset.

Trying to push the other boy from his mind, Jack reached down again and grabbed the first bit of trash his hands came in contact with. "Come on, ya fuckin'--" he muttered, tugging again as it got caught somewhere.
