I did well on the math portion of the GRE. Unfortunately, even a perfect score on that portion only places me in the 92nd percentile. That is, 8% of all GRE test-takers score an 800 on that section. Not a huge deal, considering that pretty much anyone who wants to enter my major with any success should be up in that range.

The verbal didn't go nearly as well, putting me somewhere between the 65th and 70th percentile. I've always said, it's not the size of your vocabulary, it's how you use it. But apparently the Graduate Records Exam disagrees! Anyway, I may want to invest in another take of the exam, because I think with a little more effort, a better night's sleep, and a luckier selection of questions, I'd be able to score higher. And I'm not too worried about accidentally lowering my math score.

However, the Analytical Writing section is still a wild card. (Obviously, that portion cannot be automatically graded.) If I do particularly well in that section, I may settle for my verbal score. After all, math requires math and analysis, and not so much verbal. Same for math ed, I'd argue. But I'll probably talk to an adviser about it.
