Oh boooooooooy. Music has got me stressed lately.
I've been nominated for Tri-M, and I need to pick out either a solo or ensemble piece to play for a Tri-M inductee concert-thing by Friday. The problem? I don't know any of the other guitarists that were nominated and I'd be scared shitless to do a solo in front of EVERYONE. I think I'll go to Grinstead at lunch and pick out a trio, and arrange to meet the other two players a couple times after school a week. Hopefully that'll work, but this is all in my head right now so idek.
And the new songs for All County Guitar Day are kicking my ass. A couple of them are easy but Sycamore Tree is going to be hell learning to play. I have to learn how to play in 7th position. So not only do I have to learn these by spring break for the grades to go into this grading period, but Grinstead put me in charge of teaching Valerie how to play them, too. I just never get to see her enough to teach her her anything. BUT! Victoria has been wanting to join Guitar Orchestra and needed a song to audition with, so I made her a copy of When Johnny Comes Marching Home. I think it will be a good song to audition with, because: A) it's in 6/8 time; B) it uses all 6 strings; and C) it's part of Americana Medley, a long piece that uses a bunch of American folk songs that we're already preparing to perform.
Did I also mention that we perform at Arts in the Park this Sunday? It would be easier if more than half of us were planning on being there, but it's the day after prom and Grinstead doesn't want any of us showing up hungover.
AND NOW FOR CHORUS, YAY.
Oh loooooooord. We're getting ready to perform at State Festival next month so of course Zahner is being a real hardass. His choirs have never made anything better than excellents at state, and since this is going to be one of his last years teaching, he really wants to get at least one superior before he retires. Which I totally get, but ugh. Whiiiiiiiine. We're going to sing Glory to God by Handel, the poem Remember by Christina Rossetti put to music, and an old spiritual called Little Lamb.
On the other hand, we're getting ready for Masquerade, which is basically a collection of songs from famous musicals in one big show. Zahner said he's trying to find a hot rod for Greased Lightnin'. And soon we'll be getting a Phantom of the Opera song for it, too. SO EXCITE.
and for reading that wall o' text you get rewarded a Beatles gif :D
