Clockwork Ball Cancelation - Emergency Pub Crawl - a few details

Mar 04, 2010 20:56

Regarding confusion with the cancelation of this Saturday's Clockwork Ball..... Something actually happened with the venue in real life.  There's a message at the top of the Mansion 462 website announcing that "Unfortunately all shows this week have been postponed."

The message on Mansion 462's website is in a smaller and less eye-catching font than the headline below for Clockwork, so someone not paying attention might not notice the postponement message.   [Edited 03/05/2010 01:17 AM to add:  I neglected to mention that I actually called the phone number on the Mansion 462 website Thursday night and got an automated message that their "phone number has been disconnected or is no longer in service." ]

The event organizers had announced the cancellation in persona, working it into the storyline of their weekly radio show, The Clockwork Cabaret.  (CLANNG are their ficticious nemesis, doubtlessly ficticiously kicking babies down the stairs as we speak   :-D   Details may be found here and there on their website and podcasts.  If you haven't heard them yet, what in the world are you waiting for?  Go ahead - we'll wait.)

Anyway, confusion ensued for a time. I haven't seen an "official" reason given on the Mansion 462 website or any of the Clockwork-related Facebook, Live Journal or Twitter posts that I've seen that I could count as a firm confirmation of precisely what happened.  A few people mentioned that 462 had been robbed, but I'm not sure if that's what actually hapened.  [Edited 03/05/2010 01:17 AM to add:  The Clockwork organizers have confirmed that the venue did not give them a firm reason for the cancelation so at the moment, the reason is still a mystery.]

Most Clockwork attendees, hyper-connected lot that they are, have seen the sad news in their inboxes and are doubtlessly at this moment crying softly into their Earl Grey - but not for long...

Good News!  They've put together a Steampunk Pubcrawl at Milltown in Carrboro, and well done to them for coming up with such clever solution so quickly.  If you miss them at Milltown, they can probably be tracked via the Twitters, Facebook, etc..  I intend to go and will have my cell in case anyone needs another way to find us 919.491.6040.

Milltown is located at 307 East Main Street in Carrboro, which falls not quite halfway between been Mansion 462 and one of their previous venues (and potential Saturday pub crawl stop) The Station at Southern Rail.  There had been some friction with that venue in the past but they're under new management.  (Yay!)  For one thing they've (finally) got a calendar on their website and they've got nothing scheduled for Saturday.  Ripe for invasion?  I think yes.

Note:  The Chapel Hill-Carrboro weather forecast for Saturday, March 6th predicts clear skies with lows in the upper 20's, so no rain, happily, but you'll want to dress warmly and wear comfy shoes.
