Scene: Dad at dinner table working on monthly budget and son (age 8) asks for help with addition and subtraction.
Son: Daddy, this maff is too hard. How do you subtract 5 from 21?
Dad: Well, Son, let me use an example so you can do this on your own like you will when you're 18. Let's say to live under my roof, you're going to have to pay 150 dollars every month, following me?
Son: That's too many, Dad.
Dad: Then live somewhere else.
But you manage to actually do something one month worth a damn and I give you a... say... 63 dollar discount? For like chores or bringing me weed.
Son: How much more is sixty-three than five?
Dad: Huh...? Oh.
Good work, you owe me ...hmm... eight-hundred and some dollars.
Son: I'M eight. [proudly pointing to himself with a closed fist and pressing his thumb into his chest]
Dad: Yes, you are, son.
Yes, you are.
