Ichigo didn’t waste a single moment. His movements through the ship were rushed, quick and efficient, because he had only one chance here, and he wasn’t going to fuck it up. He was going to save her. He looked down briefly at Rukia, bundled against his chest, her blood staining his clothes, a broken porcelain doll.
“Shit. Shit,” he repeated under his breath, over and over. He’d never been so desperate in his life. The infirmary door slammed open; Ichigo’s swift footsteps were dulled by the linoleum floor as he rushed over to an open bed.
She was still breathing, at least. He felt his hands shake as he laid her down gently, one hand cradling her head before setting it down on the pillow. He didn’t have time to feel embarrassed as he stripped her of her jacket, too distracted by -- shit, he didn’t even want to think about what he was feeling. Fear. Guilt. Anger. Some other things he didn’t want to name.
He pushed her shirt up hurriedly, stopping when a sliver of bra peeked out, and he pulled his hands back, blushing a little in spite of himself. That was good enough. No reason to completely embarrass the both of them when she was lucid again. When, not if. Ichigo wasn’t going to let her die. He wasn’t, and he didn’t even want to think about what would happen if he didn’t.
Brows pulling together worriedly, he cleaned the blood from her skin, scowling façade dropped almost completely. So much blood. But without the stain of red, the gash across her abdomen wasn’t wide or even particularly horrible-looking. The pirate’s cut had been clean, but it had been deep, and that was the problem. Ichigo didn’t have the kind of medical prowess to fix it permanently, but he could fix it temporarily. Stem the flow of blood until they got her to a hospital. Keep her alive just long enough.
Keep her alive. He frowned and got to work.
