[There is blood all over Rhode's white stockings, and she is kneeling on the ground a crumpled form, her umbrella over her shoulder as she peers down at the body before her. It is impaled with numerous black and purple wax candles, but Rhode doesn't look remotely bothered, and she smiles.

It doesn't reach her eyes.]

You're lucky.

[Rhode whispers ( Read more... )

[voice soft from suspended disbelief:] Rhode?

[And is that...]

[Yes. It is. All of a sudden, Allen feels incredibly stupid for having so much faith that the truce will hold, but then again, Rhode doesn't sound like she thinks the truce has blown over. What does that make this, then? A warning? A demonstration? Well, whatever she's going for here, the truce might as well be in shambles. Only fight back when attacked, the terms say. There are five Exorcists and three Noah in Nesreca, and they've all just been handed a reason.

Now Allen has to ensure no one makes use of it, at least long enough for him to figure out what the hell happened.]

Where is he? What happened!?

[God damn the fog, how is he even supposed to find anyone like this―]

[When the video turns back on, Rhode is in a tree, her pink umbrella unfolded to shield her from the rain. Her skin is still grey and she's still in black mode -- and the blood is still smeared all over her dress.]

Follow his Innocence, Allen.

[She is quiet for a moment before she rolls her eyes to the sky.]

I warned him.

[shortly, and with a marked coolness:] I can't. Where is he?

[Tyki told him the Noah can sense each other, but that's not quite the case for the Exorcists. Allen's not the Apocryphos, there's no way he can let Mugen lead him. If it were Invocated, he might've been able to pick up its aura, but even that's a long shot.]

And did he attack you?

He threatened me.

Over.

[A sharp 'clunk' as Rhode's foot hits a branch.]

And over.

[Clunk.]

And over.

[Clunk.]

And over.

[Clunk.]

[After all of this, Kanda, Allen is going to gag you with your own PDA. The only thing that repeated sound incites in him is a rising urgency, and he doesn't wait for her to finish talking before he's already moving out, heading in the direction in which he thinks he last saw Kanda. Yes, he regenerates. Someone still needs to remove those candles so his body can get started before he bleeds out.]

Maybe, but you've been threatening him too ― and Alma. He hasn't made good on any of it!

Lecture me all you want, Allen, it isn't going to change what happened.

[It's said almost boredly, but there's an odd look in her eyes.]

I warned him. He didn't listen to me.

Serves him right.

[The darndest thing is, she has a point. Kanda has been warned, multiple times by both sides, but failed to listen. Allen's failed to make him listen. Now everyone's paying for it in the middle of an event when tension and frustration are already running high.

And Allen knows Rhode has been on what is quite possibly her best behaviour in years. That she's being merciful in her own way by not killing Kanda, when she knows she could have, simply because he'll come back to life.

He's also realising the limitations the truce has put on all of them now. As long as certain trangressions aren't (for lack of a better word) permanent, then the best the afflicted party can do is suck it up and deal, just to keep the truce from truly falling into shambles.

He can berate Rhode further and risk pushing her over the edge, or he can hold his tongue and risk losing his comrades' trust, all the while knowing that no matter which he picks, none of this is okay.

Always a rock and a hard place.]

[Then again, when faced with ultimatums and either-ors, Allen has always tended to go bugger it all and pick both. The camera swerves around to provide a brief shot of his eyes, angry and direct and unrelenting, but not without a measure of understanding.]

Next time you have a problem with any of the others ― take it up with me. I'll tell them the same.

[The feed cuts off.]
