100 Years before the Mast

~o~

Flickering lights and shadows,

behind the façade of sinister smiles.

Drowning in moments;

running out of time.

No strength to throw punches,

or voice to his cries.

With a heart full of curses,

and fear of what lies,

a choice had to be made

to prolong his demise.

~o~o~o~

A year, five years, ten years at sea;

part of the ship, part of the crew

he would forever be.

Only time would thaw the memories and dreams;

of the son he left behind,

clear and indubitable were his screams.

The sea dealt him madness,

and death was to be earned,

until it devoured him,

transformed by waves once yearned.
