which editor are you using? because your html is exactly right, but i have a feeling you've pasted it into the rich text editor, which is WYSIWYG, so any coding you put in gets treated as text.

you're gonna want to either (a) switch to the html editor (the tabs are at the top right corner of the text-entry field) and copy-paste your html, or (b) just highlight "Link to Part Two," press the "Insert/Edit Link" button (in the toolbar, just right of the text-size dropdown) and paste the URL into the text box that comes up.

...also i'm liking the story a lot thus far! :)

it's a spacing issue. you need to remove the spaces from between all of your brackets and your letters, quotation marks and back slash.

Really really good so far. Depressing, but in a good way. If there is a good way... Not sure what's worse, actually: Arthur going ll blank or extreme Merlin angst. Oh dear...

It's not often you can come across - by chance - such good story. Your plot is interesting; you show your characters "in character" and in the same time you are able to give them much more depth; and last but not least, the quality of your writing: language, style, precise construction of the plot... (it's not something you can see often in fan fiction and I treasure all stories which combine different elements in a complex, magical whole).
Oh, did I mention I loved all your Merlin writing?... Thank you!

Thanks - what a brilliant comment to receive out of the blue! You totally made my day.

I adore all the Merlin characters and really wanted to do them 'justice'. There's some awesome Merlin fic out there!

Glad my story worked for you. :)
