Lester woke with a start when his hot water bottle started to breathe. Clearly he wasn’t trapped in an ice age. The bottle, however, was still present and was now snuffling softly.
“Connnor,” said Lester, not bothering to whisper, “Why is there a diictodon in our bed?”
“There are two,” muttered Connor, as if that made it better. “It was cold.”
Lester gathered an animal under each arm and padded to the kitchen, depositing his burdens into their fleece-lined box. Then he wrote a note to add to the collection:
‘No creatures in bed.’
Now to ensure Connor stayed warm.
