Characters: Christine Johnson
P100 challenge 311: In the sewers

Christine pictured the beauty counter, checking off the colours in her mind’s eye. Today would be a tangerine day. She imagined the cool hands of the manicurist handing over a glass of champagne, beginning with a massage.

It meant nothing. Her hands were ruined, cut and bruised like every other part of her body.

She hid in the sewers only daring to go outside when she needed to find food or water. This was survival instinct. She hated it.

She lay down and entered the fantasy, despising the weakness, but needing to believe that somewhere there still existed another life.
