“I heard you.” Nick’s antagonism was barely hidden. “You’re wrong.”
Stephen fought for patience. And lost. “You listen but you’ve already decided. Is this how you were with Helen?”
“You leave her out of this. I loved Helen.”
“Sure, until she stopped being your groupie. Did you respect her?”
“Respect?” echoed Nick, furiously. “Is that the new term for fucking someone else’s wife?”
Connor bumbled in and started to fuss around the kettle.
Nick shot Stephen a glance. “Conn, do something for me?”
“Course,” agreed Connor. “Whatever you want.”
