blurring the line between reality and fiction

I was just on the phone with my mother and she was telling me about how the woman who had done her nails was upset over something and managed to cut her cuticles in a few places resulting in some blood and a bit of pain. then this happened.

Mom: Im going to have to go home and put something on them, they still hurt.
Me: Just put some essence of murtlap on them.
Mom: ...What?
Me: *figuring out what I had just said* *facepalm* Nevermind.
