So the lessons are beginning to pay off, and the mandolin thing is really starting to click. I'm getting better at being able to read actual sheet music and apply it to the mandolin instead of either only visualizing piano keys or reading tabs. This is a big step - now that I am becoming familiar with where the notes are on the fretboard I can pretty much play whatever I want. The Kim is happy. I also learned yesterday that my mandolin teacher is also a licensed massage therapist?! He teaches 35 hours and does 3-5 massages a week. Music and massage... How cool is that? I want his life. Haha.

Had a great time last night. We went to Alex & Patty's in Sarasota so Robb could discuss his ideas for the short film he wants to make, and while they were discussing I met up with some of my old classmates from SSMT because Reeny is going back home to Australia this summer and we all got together to say our goodbyes. Most of the people I went to school with are some of the most genuinely good people I have ever met. Even though we don't stay in touch as much as we swore we would, somehow spending 8 months touching a pretty much nude person with nothing between you but a sheet created a bond that is not easily broken. Yes, there were the annoying people, as with any class, but the majority of us got really close really fast. And even after not seeing some of them for exactly one year (coincidentally it was the one year anniversary of our graduation - it really was not planned at all, just happened to be a convenient date) it was as if we had all just met up at the old Applebee's between classes. The same closeness was there, and it was wonderful. We all picked up right where we left off. I'm really going to miss Reeny - I was closest to her of all... And one of the girls in my class has a daughter who has swim practice at North Shore pool - meaning she is less than 5 minutes from me like once a week (she lives in Sarasota) - and offered to pay me a visit next time she's in town, perhaps make it a somewhat regular thing. She was one of the better people in our class. And it was also great to get a free random shoulder rub from the person sitting next to me. She did a brief feel, commented that my shoulders were like rocks and then proceeded to grab my upper trapezius and make the horrible tightness I had been feeling there for weeks release. Love...

In other news, the IV pharmacist at my work will probably be going on maternity leave in July or August, so my "team leader" and I had a discussion and decided it would be best if I took my vacation before she has her baby - so maybe around late June (just in case the doctor orders bed rest or something). At Alex & Patty's I lamented that I had no idea what the hell to do for vacation - I hoard it until I come up with a good plan and then take like 2-3 weeks off all at once. Preferably in the fall, since it's my favorite. Then Robb (surprise surprise) said, "Why don't we go up to New York?" I was like, "Hell yes!" We know so many people up there now. And I've never been. So we've got to work it all out, but that's the plan. I didn't think Robb was as up for NY as I was, but apparently he is. And I really didn't want to take vacation in the summer (yuck) but maybe it won't be as bad up north? Who cares? I'm so excited. I really hope we can make this trip. I guess the trip to NY was something I really wanted to plan out and make sure I had lots of spending money for, but if the opportunity is there, then why pass it up? Josh, you'd better be free this summer...
